The Seattle street wear scene is pretty amazing. We have some cool independent stores as well as commercial brands with store fronts. There have been sad closings over the years of insanely dope stores, such as Goods, Blackbird, and Moksha due to various reasons; and there have been openings of really fresh stores like Alive and Well, Recess, and Likelihood. These stores are men’s wear driven but I can usually find some cool pieces for myself.
One brand that has survived since 2005 is Flying Coffin led by Jason Gomez. He is a Hawaii native that calls Seattle home. Jason has his merchandise in several U.S. boutiques and also found his way overseas into many other countries. Pretty impressive huh? His signature logo is a coffin with wings and he is a screen printing genius. His most recent line utilizes custom puffy ink that makes his lettering look almost 3-D. His aesthetic has dark gothic imagery with a nonconformist message. His brand is hardcore!
Jason collaborates with a lot of up and coming and known artists over the years to maintain creativity while keeping his brand consistent. Jason is currently working with Matt Worthey who is a local graphic designer. I am super excited to rock my new baby pink beanie. I hope to find more female wearable items from this male dominated industry. Fellas don’t forget us females. We want to look fresh too!
